Rules

To maintain the quality of the Adport visitor experience we have set a few guidelines and rules that we expect our beloved members to follow.

• Your banners should not exceed 468x60 pixels in dimension.
  They can either be self contained swf’s, or in html with gifs or jpegs.
  
• Any swf file above 20k would require a preloader.
  Use of obscure plugins that require lengthy downloads is unfortunately not allowed.
  
• scrolling is only permitted when it serves an actual purpose.
  not as a result of bad design. We dont want anyones banner to have to make our page scroll. we shouldnt even have to tell anyone that.
  
• Left and Top Margins for html pages should be set to 0 (zero)
  
• External links must be of the popup variety. meaning they should remain external.

Any banner site contravening these rules at any point, will be removed from our banner site list.

Guidelines

A carefully planned banner site shouldnt take longer than a few hours to complete.

Dont think of the 468x60 space as a limitation. Remember you have 28080 pixels to play with.

Pixel or bitmap fonts are ideal for use when designing personal banner sites.

Before you submit, make sure you test your banner as extensively as possible. Ask your friends to play with it and possibly report things that display incorrectly on their browsers/operating platforms.

Tips

We recommend using Macromedia Fireworks or Adobe Photoshop for your banner ad making pleasure.

The pencil tool is your infallible friend. Make sure that when you are erasing, you use the pixel erase, in case you decide to change background colours midway. Nothing is worse than cleaning up feathered pixels or indeed seeing them on someones site.

We find it easier to design the bannersite inside a single png or psd file. Hiding the groups of layers related to each bannersite page and finally exporting the related slices.
